The packaging and product arrived still frozen which is good considering I am in Oregon and Old Salt is in Montana. The cuts are where the one star was lost. Most of the products are cut thin. Steaks, if generously measured, are 1” thick or thinner and from parts of a beef that are considered tougher. Chick, skirting, etc. I accidentally stumbled onto their cooking guide which has helped. And I am learning to prepare them without ruining the meat. The flavor has been good on all of the cuts.
I would rather smaller pork chops without the bone. Cooking them to a consistent temperature is quite difficult because of the bone. Overdone edges and underdone by the bone. I’ve deboned the chops before cooking for better temperature consistency throughout.
Their lamb brats are amazing and I was so happy to have them in the box for a second time. Last time just one pack and this time there were two. Yummy!
The tri tip that has been in both boxes looks great. Haven’t cooked the second one yet. The first was delicious. I made it with a reverse sear and dry rub in my oven and it turned out great.
One thing that would make my box better. One pack of two steaks that were thicker instead of two packs that are thin and harder to cook without overcooking.
The adventure in my box for me is the lamb. I’ve never made it myself and when I’ve eaten it out it has been inconsistent. Fortunately it’s a small part of the box and worth a try.
First box had kielbasa that was awful. Grainy texture and not to my taste. So happy it wasn’t in the second box
