When you order a beef share from Old Salt, you're stocking your freezer with grass-fed, grass-finished beef from Montana ranches that regenerate the land. Every cut is traceable to the ranch where it was born and raised on.
What's in a Share
A beef share gives you the full range of what one animal offers—not just the popular cuts, but the whole picture. Expect ribeyes, strips, and tenderloin alongside butcher favorites like flank, bavette, and tri-tip. You'll also get chuck roasts, stew meat, and ground beef—the workhorses of weeknight dinners.
Buying by the share means better value per pound and a freezer stocked for months. It's how people used to buy beef, and it's still the smartest way.
Share Sizes
- 1/8 Beef – A good starting point. Fits in most standard freezers.
- 1/4 Beef – Ideal for families or serious home cooks.
- 1/2 Beef – The committed option. Fewer orders, more meat on hand.
- Whole Beef – Call or email us to order a whole beef and place a deposit. We'll walk you through the details.

Please note: these shares are only available locally (no shipping). They are also already priced with a discount, so the 22% local pickup discount does not apply to beef shares (it does apply to all other bundles and individual cuts).
Half Beef Share - 225 lbs of beef

We ship our meat frozen every week on Tuesday with dry ice and recyclable shipping materials. You can select your shipping date when completing an order. We offer flat rate shipping on all orders plus further discounted rates on orders of $199 and above. For more information, please see a detailed explanation here.
We offer free local pickups in Helena at our downtown location, The Union, at 361 N Last Chance Gulch, Wednesday - Friday, 11am - 8pm. You can reach them at 406-422-0515.
We also offer weekly routes to various locations in Northwest and Southwest Montana. Customers who pickup from us also receive an automatic 22% discount when completing an order. For more information and to see our schedule of delivery routes, check out this blog post.
We also offer local delivery in the immediate Helena area on Thursdays. Free for orders of $199 or more, otherwise a $10 fee applies.
